When, How, and Why We Use Beautiful Renderings for Your Home Project

One of the toughest challenges I see during the design process is how to effectively convey how a space will look. Material boards, floor plans, and even hand illustrations are excellent in presenting ideas to a client, but some ideas are harder to visualize with these tools.

Having the ability to create photo realistic renderings of a finished space has done wonders for my design firm. They provide a clear and precise visual for clients to experience their home well before the purchasing phase, putting them at ease and eliminating uncertainty.

The Basics of WHAT a Rendering Is and Isn’t

So what exactly is a rendering? Well it depends! They can range from two dimensional elevations with color and pattern to something that can so closely resemble a photograph, you’d be amazed. From overall room shots to close up details, renderings allow a client to view the space from different angles and different times of day to get the most clear depiction of the design. They are also excellent at conveying the scale of furniture, artwork, and pattern in the intended space.

The Situations WHEN a Rendering is Helpful

Interior design firms are incorporating photorealistic renderings into the design projects at greater volume, including us! We like to include hand drawn renderings into every project, and add photorealistic renderings for projects that involve a lot structural changes as these can be harder to visualize. When clients can experience their space from different angles, they feel less uncertainty during the design process and more excited for the end result!

HOW Renderings Impact the Design Process

While renderings have become incredibly impactful for the client experience, we as interior designers also receive a lot of feedback from them. They allow us to see the breakdown of color, pattern, and texture within the space to ensure the design is well balanced and cohesive. We rely on floorplans for space planning and scale and renderings to see how each layer relates to another.

The Reasons WHY Renderings Benefit You

When it comes to making big decisions, I believe most people appreciate any and all reassurance, especially regarding their home! Afterall, renovations can take up to a year to complete with a necessary few months of upheaval during the demo and install phase. So it is completely understandable to feel uncertainty or fear towards a project’s outcome.

Luckily, incorporating renderings early in the design process alleviates many concerns and can help the process of transforming dreams into reality go much more smoothly.
