Project Reveal: French Country Kitchen Reno in Allentown, Pennsylvania

When Todd and Sonya moved into Todd's childhood home, the first space the couple set their sights on updating in the mid-century split level was the original kitchen and adjoining family room.

Aside from feeling dark and cramped, the space did not function well. Before the remodel, the home's kitchen back door entered into a small laundry space that was anything but warm and welcoming. So, in addition to updating the kitchen and increasing space and storage, we were tasked with making the kitchen entrance feel grander as it is the home's main entrance.

Todd and Sonya purchased his childhood home for sentimental reasons, but they wanted a space that was cohesive, from the kitchen finishes to the family room chair fabrics, and reflected their personal taste.

Before: The kitchen was dark and cramped with upper cabinets that divided the space.

Our Process & Design Presentation

Using 3D modeling software, we reimagined how Todd and Sonya's desired kitchen and family room could become a reality. We tore out walls and closets to open up the space, along with the kitchen peninsula and upper cabinets that divided the long room.

A well-loved chocolate leather couch and four rustic wooden dining chairs with woven seats were the only pieces that Todd and Sonya desired to keep. The design that we presented to them was French Country, characterized by rustic coziness and a color palette that aligned with the mid-century era. The end result was a space that feels warm, welcoming, a full of character, just like Todd and Sonya. Take a look at the transformation…

Kitchen Renovation Revealed

After: A stunning bright and open space with charming French Country touches.

Isn’t it beautiful? Todd and Sonya are delighted in their renovated space. Todd mentioned that “the open-concept kitchen, dining, and family rooms worked out very well! It is big but yet feels very cozy and livable." Sonya’s favorite space is her hidden laundry room complete with a built-in ironing station and flat-screen TV.

A custom design touch: Faux cabinet doors to hide the laundry room and walk-in pantry.

Having to keep two particular support beams, we split the adjoining office into a walk-in pantry and a large laundry room, each accessed via faux cabinet doors. Regarding the design finishes and fabric selections, we embraced the home's mid-century architectural style with their preferred design aesthetic.
