The holiday season is upon us and this year, more than any other, there is a strong need to surround ourselves with joy and hope. Although celebrating our traditions the way we are accustomed may not be possible, here are a few simple ways to help make your home “sing” throughout the holiday season.
Let us begin with the front door. Creating a festive front entrance sets the tone for what guests may find inside the home.
It is also essential to creating curb appeal. Before placing any décor, remember to sweep the front stoop and walkway, replace lightbulbs, shine/clean light fixtures and the front door, and wash your windows. These are simple, but important steps that will help to create a more welcoming entrance. Since most front doors are at least 36” wide, a wreath with a diameter of 28”-30” will suffice. Scale is important, as a wreath too small will make the decoration look out of proportion. Flanking the door with two urns or planters and a beautiful combination of greens, pinecones and berries will complete the look.
The mantle is another important focal point, and a great place to embellish your home for the holidays. Below is a 2019 look that we loved!
We enjoy the look a beautiful wreath hung on top of a mirror. (Be sure to attach a bow that coordinates with your existing décor). We like to use wired decorative stems such as magnolia or greenery on the mantle because we can bend and adjust each stem to lay exactly right. Once your base greenery is positioned, add the next layer. Berries, pinecones, and cotton garlands add a little pop of color and texture, which is also a good way to create more warmth. If you have an outlet on top of the mantle, weave a strand of white lights throughout the greens and call it a day!

Decorating the rest of your house is as easy as three little words…keep it simple! If you have special holiday décor that is important to display, be sure to remove some of your existing décor so it doesn’t become too cluttered. Lanterns, candles, a decorative pillow and tabletop pieces are simple ways to add festive spirit to a room. Embellish your holiday décor with some of the same mantle greenery. Repeating patterns with greenery will help connect the design and add a little bit of Christmas to that area of the room.
We hope these simple suggestions have inspired you. Whether choosing to decorate the traditional way, or only feel like adding a few greens this year, we hope your home sings. Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season!
