Have More FUN Decorating Your Front Porch This FALL

Make a fresh first impression!

September 17, 2020

Spending a lot of time at home this summer has me dreaming of all the ways I can welcome fall in my new townhouse.  Don’t get me wrong, I love summer and have really enjoyed the sunshine, picnics and kayaking on the lake.  But as the crisp morning air has returned to Pennsylvania, my mind is starting to think of pumpkins, mums, and the beautiful autumnal colors we enjoy during this time of the year.

This fall, treat visitors to a warm fall greeting by dressing your outside entry. Your entry needs to be welcoming, balanced and inviting. It is especially fun at this time of the year when we can use deep purples, rich burgundies and spicy oranges that will bring depth and interest to a space. To be welcoming, the area should greet visitors and make them curious to see what awaits.

Begin with BALANCE

When balancing your outdoor décor, make sure that it is pleasing to the eye just like any other decorated space inside your home. Balance can be achieved in several different ways. By placing something high on each side of the entrance, you can gradually build downward with pumpkins and mums to lead people directly to your front door.

Bundle-up with BASKETS

For your front door treatment, use your imagination and picture what would read well with all your other elements. Try switching out vibrant summer colors to warmer tones that we love in the cooler months.  Incorporate elements like acorn branches, wheat, corn stalks and bittersweet into your arrangements.  Try using baskets and fill them with all the glorious colors of fall finishing with a burlap ribbon. The possibilities are endless.

Gourds love GROUPS

Group different sized pumpkins and gourds around a planter or basket on your front porch for a quick and simple entry. If your summer plants still have some life in them, don’t just empty and store your summer hanging baskets for next year. Below, you will see how our dear friend changed her flowers out for a fall display and extend the season by adding white pumpkins. Grouping items together adds to the “cozy” feel you are trying to achieve. We LOVE when transitioning between seasonal decor makes a little economic sense too!

If you’d like help this season creating a whole new look or reinventing what you currently have, give us a call in our Hamilton Street studio at 610-966-5005. We love hearing from you and are here to help through the entire fall and winter holiday seasons!
